Trails Open Spring skiing conditions. Soft conditions today with no freeze overnight. Snow is melting fast but still good coverage in the woods on the east and north side of the trails we are focusing on the remainder of the season.
Great seeing all the folks out this weekend enjoying this special time of year of skiing! We plan to be open through the week. Focusing on the east side of Sukkerbusk to North Loup for classic and the skate lanes on Skaters Waltz and North Loup for skate. After today, the Kamikaze section will be closed on Skaters, use Sap Run for the connector.
Temps are pleasant and fun to hear the sounds of spring including the mighty trumpeter swan and enjoy the remaining snow and transitions of seasons. Conditions have deteriorated since last week but the trails we are focusing on are very skiable with a good base of snow, albeit a bit dirty.
Grooming: Monday evening we groomed Sukkerbusk and the shortened loop of Skaters Waltz (bypass Kamikaze segment) Sunday evening grooming on Sukkerbusk, North Loup setting new track and Skaters Waltz and North Loup skate lanes. Friday evening grooming on Sukkerbusk, Sap Run, Twin Lakes and Skaters Waltz. Friday morning we groomed the skate lanes again and set track on North Loup to side and also set new track on Mother North Star.
We are closed for the season for lodging/ski packages but the trails will remain open for day skiing until a projected date of April 15th, weather and snow conditions permitting.
Nature Notes: Wildlife bit more active with the transition to spring. We have been seeing porcupines along the snowshoe trail and Roy’s Run. We have also seen hawks, owls near JibFly and North Star, fox, deer of course, pileated woodpeckers and tons of tracks. Eagle sightings near Twin Lakes return at eagle view.
No trail fee the remainer of the season. There are no lodge services for day use for day skiers. This includes no ski rental. Parking in far lot near blue recycling bins where porta potties are located. There are no dogs or pets allowed.
