Snow globe conditions. Approaching 2 feet of snow this week. Sunday clear with brilliant sunshine and no wind. Great day of skiing on tap, especially classic. We have 40km of trail groomed for the weekend. 25km classic only, 15km skate only groomed. Saturday we reset all the tracks on all the classic trails and combed out Skaters Waltz twice. Very thin layer of light snow falling after the day groom. Saturday evening we reset the tracks on Sap Run, Sukkerbusk and Twin Lakes to tighten up the tracks. Skaters Waltz also groomed.
Slow going grooming this past week due to the heavy snow bending over branches, breaking off limbs etc Branches and small trees continue to fall across the trail even after grooming and clearing, use little extra caution on the downhills and watch out for the “face slappers”!
Classic only trails being groomed include Sap Run, Mother Hen, JibFly, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin and Twin Lakes. We are only grooming one track, setting best line to avoid over hanging branches etc. For skate, we are packing and combing out all the skate trails Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, Single Green, Kristin’s Cutoff and North Loup. Expect soft conditions skating other than Skaters Waltz which is set up now after skier traffic Saturday and grooming in the evening. Wavy Gravy and Island Lake trail have been packed, lot of overhanging branches. We will track these trails early next week.
