Ski Trail Report

All trails open. Excellent mid winter conditions. High temperature at midnight as we gradually cool down throughout the day today and return to cooler weather to temperatures similar to earlier this week. The trails will not close because of the warmth or the cold……Just Ski. Thursday evening we reset track on Twin Lakes, Sukkebusk, Loon Return and combed out Skaters Waltz and Eira Bikwadinaa hill. We also set a track on Bullhead lake on the northwest side to access the land and Bullhead Lake trail and Bootleg extension,

The trails have groomed out very well after the recent snowfall and are skiing very nice. Moderating temps and dusting of graupel snow Wednesday morning making for silky conditions. We reached a high temperature of 28 on Thursday. No melting. The streets in town might be slushy but that is due to salting and sanding. (we do not salt or sand the Maplelag driveway)

The 6″ of new snow Saturday evening and Sunday morning combined with daily grooming has made for fantastic skiing. There is good snow to work with and solid seasoned base we can regroom much easier and clean the tracks out if any organic forest matter blows down from the wind.  We are pulling up the old base to help set the tracks and make the base more durable.

Groomer’s Picks for Friday : Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star and Twin Lakes. Roy’s Run has been in great shape the past few weeks and seeing just the right amount of traffic. North Loup good for both skate and classic. Sukkerbusk always in great shape, groomed the most and a great trail to ski first time at Maplelag to get a feel of lay of the land. JibFly easy loop and the return of Mother North Star back to Maplelag from start of JibFly a good beginner loop as well. If skating, be sure to cross the county road and ski the inner loop of Skaters Extension. Snow flocked pines we have planted and nice level skiing.

Classic only skiing on trails with machine set tracks: Sukkerbusk, Sap Run, JibFly, Mother Hen, Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star and Loon Return. Roys Run, Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy and the first and last part of Island Lake trail now tracked as well. Mac’s Mess in between Twin Lakes is not groomed but skier made track and passable. Might have to take skis off for just a little bit. North Loup has a track on the side and a skate path. The crossing on the north end of Bullhead lake trail is a bit rough. Take skis off and walk for the adventure! Lucky’s Loype and double green not groomed, skier made track. Watch for branches etc. on AMA land.

Skating on Skater Waltz, the extension of Skater Waltz, Single Green climb, Kristin’s Kutoff, Eira Bikwadinaa hill and North Loup.  Please do not skate on trails outside of the designated skate trails. Thank you!

We have been grooming and skiing since November 20th and have only missed four days of grooming since that first snowfall we skied on after grooming.

6″ new snowfall past 5 days. 24″ of snowfall this season, compacted base on trail 2-6″. Snow depth in woods 3-10″
