Trails are open. Another great day of Spring Like skiing. Trails and snow holding out great and base is solid with nicely seasoned snow. On average 8″ of compacted base on trail. Snow depth in woods on average 18″. Textbook “spring skiing” conditions today. Hard and fast in the morning before softening and slower in the afternoon. Another good hard freeze last night keeping the base solid and cold. Best skiing 10am to 2pm and recommended times to ski for best conditions and helping preserve the deck for better grooming and skiing the next day! The exact time of best skiing can fluctuate a bit depending on low, humidity and cloud cover. Saturday doesn’t look as warm so the softening might be a bit later, especially if cloudy.
This afternoon/evening entire trail system groomed except Bullhead Bootlleg loop which was groomed Thursday evening. Grooming at evenings sets the deck up harder when freezing at night again but that is with intention and purpose. Harder tracks will last and take longer to soften when it warms up and sun is beating down. During spring conditions, we welcome the warmer temps in the afternoon to soften up the trails for skiing and grooming later in the day and evening.
Spring Skiing is some of our favorite skiing of the year! We have a great base of seasoned snow going back to mid November. The bottom four inches of the compacted base acting like a refrigerant. We look to freeze nicely each night during this little warm spell which is key. Moving forward, with spring conditions, generally the best time to ski, provided it warms up to 35-38 degrees, is from 10am to 2pm and suggest skiing during this time frame.
We will continue grooming daily, as conditions dictate, working on select trails each day to have fresh tracks and always try to have the main trails Sukkerbusk and Sap Run in best condition possible.
Skating on Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, North Loup, Single Green, Kristin’s Kutoff and Eira Bikwadinaa Hill. All other trails are tracked for classic skiing. (Please no skating on classic trails) Sukkerbusk is a great starter trail for classic which feeds the outer trails and crosses most of the inner trails providing a good “lay of the land”.
We have also have a loop on Little Sugarbush Lake “Lumi’s Loop” with a skate lane and track on each side. This is a fun 1.2km loop that makes for a fun ski at sunrise and sunset and under the full moon! Groomed 2/11
43″ of snow so far this season. We have been grooming daily on the entire trail system since mid November, only missing a few days.
