More seasonable weather middle of the week with nice breeze from the south. Temp dropping down to the mid 30’s Monday night with a few low lying areas picking up some frost and a couple of the roofs a little white. Always exciting to see the first frost as a reminder winter isn’t too far behind!! . Off and on showers over the weekend with light precipitation totals. Feels like October but the leaves are out in full force with very little color change, just a few maple trees here and there showing some color. We are working on the ski trails for the upcoming winter season when we can, mowing and clearing deadfall and brush. The next event to take place on the trails will be the Pumpkin Run. A 4 and 8km trail run on the ski trails. The date of this event will be October 18th. The trails will remain open this fall for biking, hiking and trail running. There is no trail fee to use the trails. A great time to be in the woods with pleasant temps and no bugs. We are also working on a new section of mountain bike singletrack throughout the Fall. We are planning on making a 4-5 mile loop to the west near the Twin Lakes ski trail system. We are hoping to have a trail day this fall and will post information when we set a date.

Beautiful summer weather this week. Cooling down nicely at nights, low humidity and dew points and temps in the upper 70’s and lower 80’s with dry conditions. A passing shower on Friday evening leaving a few hundreths of an inch of moisture behind. Work continues on the course for the Laddies Loppet mountain bike weekend and things are looking great. We have been riding the course almost daily and conditions are fast. The deer flies haven’t been to much of an issue and the cooler nights seem to be slowing them down. We are working on the areas that are brushed over on the singletrack and have been mowing on ski trail portions of the course. We will begin mowing the other ski trails in a few weeks to prepare them for the winter. The trails are open for riding. Please drop us a note. if you have questions about riding. There is no trail fee to use the trails and no services available at the lodge with the language camps in session. The trail starts behind the Great Northern building and is marked from that point for beginner loop and intermediate/expert loop. We have taken a break from working on the new singletrack by Twin Lakes since we have been working on the Laddies Loppet course. We are hoping to make a 3-4 mile loop with completion date set for September/October. Lots of critters and insects in the woods and a nice variety of wildflowers.

After 1.25″ of rain yesterday, Thursday starting out clear and sunny with gentle breeze from the south. The rain has really brought the woods to life and are as green as ever. The low spots on the trails are holding water including the bike course with a few spots of standing water but the singletrack and other trails in good shape. When it dries up a bit more, we will mow the course. We have put signs out at the key intersections and have been fine tuning the trail when we can, mowing and blowing leaves and sticks off the course. Please drop us a note if you have questions about riding. There is no trail fee to use the trails and no services available at the lodge with the language camps starting now.

A great weekend of skiing on the trails. Not taking anything from the other weekends so far this year but possibly the best so far this year with the temps climbing into the lower teens, light winds and plenty of sunshine. All the trails groomed before and over the weekend. The only trail not groomed is Bullhead which is on the list to see some work the early part of this week. Thanks SW for the Euro blend. The trails will continue to see almost daily groming the rest of the season!! Skiing has been rated good to excellent. Some of the classic trails still have a few sore spots, mainly on the southern exposed hills over the 58km that has been groomed but all in all things are looking great. There are about 50km of trails with tracks for classic 8km groomed for skating. The compacted base on the trails is 2-4″ and snow depth in the woods is now around 5-7″. Total snowfall this year has been around 16″. The old wood fired sauna has been “stoked”, the ice skating rink is in good condition, and the sledding hill is open with some fresh snow to play in.
