Trails are open until noon today. It will be icy in the morning before softening up probably around 10am. No track set on the loop we have been grooming. We did set a track on JibFly Saturday evening. Should be skiable until 11am, a very small window between being icy and getting soft and slushy. Use extreme caution on downhills if skiing JibFly. Pick up track in between the cabooses.
A nice morning of skiing on Saturday. As always, great seeing everyone out to enjoy this late season snow. Froze down hard overnight with morning low checking in at 13 degrees. We groomed before sunrise to have the skate deck in better condition for the morning skiers. The track we did not reset with the vulnerable base. Softened up late morning and very skiable for a few hours. Although the temperature was cooler than forecasted, the sun deteriorated the snow, mostly the track.
The loop we have been grooming and have open consists of the east side of Skaters Waltz and Sukkerbusk using Sap Run to make the loop. Use the soccer field connector to access the loop for follow the grooming (not start of Sap Run). Loop can be skied either direction and is groomed for both skate and classic.
We are also groomed a 9km loop for fat biking utilizing the west Twin Lakes singletrack and ski trail. Open until noon today.
Earlier this week we were working on the trails in the morning when the ground was frozen, cutting deadfall off the side of the trail and getting blocks to split for firewood for the saunas etc. The frost is still in the ground and will be a month or so until fully dried out. The ice on Little Sugarbush lake is over 12″ with no melting off the edges. We anticipate the ice off mid April.
